Welcome to our Office
What to expect at your first visit
Congratulations! You have just taken the first step to joining a dental family that is fully committed to being part of your journey to excellent oral health … for life. When you have so many choices for an Omaha dentist, it can be hard to know which dental office is best for your family. Please scroll down on this page to learn more about what to expect when you visit us, and if you have any questions, please call – we would love to introduce you to our practice.
Because certain medical conditions have an impact on your oral health – and your oral health is connected to many medical conditions - we ask about your medical history as well as your oral health history and concerns. This helps us create a personalized plan that suits your individual needs so you know that we have your overall health at the forefront of your care.
In preparation of your first visit, please complete your Registration Form and submit it to us online ahead of your appointment.
If you have any concerns or anxiety about receiving dental care, you will love our office tour. Many of our patients find that once they have met our team, have seen our children's play area, coffee bar, restroom locations, and our state-of-the-art sterilization center, their anxiety about what to expect is lessened.
An important part of knowing that we are giving you the best care that meets your individual needs is the quality of our treatment coordination. This is where you get to ask any questions you may have forgotten to ask the doctor and receive the answers you need to feel confident with the level of care you are receiving. Dr. Homan and his team are dedicated to helping you advocate for your care so that you receive what you need when you need it. Dental insurance is not designed to pay for all the care you need, so our helpful and friendly staff will help you maximize your annual benefits.
Initial Dental Exam
Your first exam appointment will take longer than others – up to 90 minutes – even if you attended regular dental appointments before visiting us. At your first appointment, we want to get to know you as a person first, not just a mouth full of teeth. Meet Dr. Homan and the team to discuss your personal oral health needs and desires. Talk about your concerns and fears. Find out why we are well known for our excellent care, both dental and personal. Only then do we even move back to the dental chair.
We will take photographs, necessary x-rays, and gather the information we need to work together to create a plan for your dental care. This includes examining your teeth, gums, jaw joints, muscles, and screening your mouth for diseases such as oral cancer. You will learn what we find while we work with you to determine the personalized approach that works best for you. Whether we set up a regular care schedule, design a treatment plan to address decay or gum issues, or discuss your cosmetic concerns, this is your chance to tell us what you like and don’t like about your smile and general oral health. Then we work with you to help you meet these needs.
For adults, this visit is scheduled separately from the initial exam. This is important so we can diagnose and plan the right approach for your specific needs. Whether it is a thorough cleaning or a treatment for gum disease, you will have the right amount of time scheduled for your personal care. Our hygienists are very gentle and use the latest state-of-the-art ultrasonic instruments. The use of the old fashioned “dig and scrape” method is no longer needed.
You can take advantage of this appointment by asking any questions you have about the best way to care for your smile. Brushing and flossing are essential but can also be damaging to your smile if done incorrectly. Your hygienist is an expert at helping you take excellent care of your teeth and gums no matter where you are.
Digital and laser technology does more than make your visits more comfortable. We take only the necessary x-rays using the state-of-the-art technology and the safest systems available. Digital x-rays help us create a baseline, so we can always give you the highest level of care for your personal circumstances. A small intraoral camera lets you see what we see, clearly displayed on a monitor so we can plan your treatment together. You are a critical part of your care and we want you to fully understand everything we suggest for your family’s oral health.
