tooth Extraction

What is a Tooth Extraction?

A tooth extraction involves fully removing one or more of your natural teeth. Extractions are safely performed in our office on an as-needed basis. While we take every step necessary to prevent the need for an extraction, there are times when fully removing the tooth is best for your overall oral health. Our goal is to provide you with extractions that are safe, comfortable and beneficial to your smile.

Why would a Tooth Extraction be needed?

A tooth extraction may be needed if you have severely decayed teeth or if a tooth is loose because of gum disease. Extractions are essential for baby teeth that are having problems falling out on their own. In some cases, our patients request that a tooth be removed rather than having other procedures or treatment done. Extractions are always done to benefit the health of your teeth.

What makes you a good candidate for a Tooth Extraction?

Extractions are relatively simple oral surgical procedures that can be done easily in office. Even for more complicated extractions, like impacted wisdom teeth, the procedure is done safely and easily in-office. We first perform an examination to determine if an extraction is needed. We then work to offer other treatment options before scheduling you for the actual extraction.

What happens during a Tooth Extraction?

Local or general anesthetic is administered to make the procedure as comfortable as possible for you. We then work to remove the tooth using specialized dental tools. If the tooth is impacted, a small incision is made through the gums and the tooth removed once it’s been exposed. Extractions may or may not require sutures depending on the location and the type of extraction done. We provide you with aftercare instructions so that the extraction site heals correctly and fully. If you experience any post-operative problems, call our office right away to come in for an appointment.
